Whenever you buy a new car from the dealer, brand new cars are going to have a smooth surface and shine. As you keep driving it on the road, the entire car will be covered in light scratches, bug residue, industrial fallout, brake dust, tree sap, and road tar. If you don't take care of your car's clear coat now, you might need to start thinking about getting a clay bar treatment .
Using clay bar on your is an important step before doing any bodyshop work like paint correction, applying wax, sealant or ceramic coating on your paint. You can think of it almost like a skin peeling that people get done, so their skin will stay feeling silky smooth when applying makeup.
1.Soapy water solution or detail spray works best.
2. Micro Fiber towels. Kirkland's are are great!
1st.
Spray clay lubricant over a 2 ft × 2 ft . Spray generously, so that the area is not just misted, but saturated. Also spray the clay disc lightly for extra lubrication.Never "clay" a dry car. You’ll end up with bits of clay stuck all over the surface, and any contaminants will likely scratch the finish.
Slide the clay back and forth gently over the lubricated area. Flatten your hand and pin the clay disc against the car with your fingers. Rub side-to-side or up-and-down, using just enough pressure to keep the clay from falling out of your hand. Add more lubricant if the clay sticks while you're trying to slide it

notice that the clay glides effortlessly, and you will no longer feel or hear the roughness in the finish. The paint should be as smooth as a sheet of glass. Run your finger over it to confirm this. If it isn't super smooth, “clay” the area again.
Wipe the area thoroughly, but not aggressively. You just need to remove the remaining lubricating spray.
Traditional clay bar is exceptionally absorbent and it is a very effective when trying to remove contaminants. A car wash can help get rid of the dirt on top of the surface. However, clay bars can clean things like brake dust, tree sap and more unlike your typical hand wash and wash. When you use a clay bar to absorb those harsh chemicals, you will not want to go back to scrubbing your car with a foam brush and soap.
